We Irish ...
My latest YouTube video (6 minutes. 30 seconds) comes roughly in three parts. I give a little talk at the start about Yeats's poem The Statues and at the end I recite all four stanzas. In the middle I quote a couple of paragraphs from Peter Kingsley's Catafalque: Carl Jung and the End of Humanity (2018).
Kingsley isn't writing about Yeats - he's writing about Jung and Empedocles - but he might as well be. It's a passage cut from exactly the same cloth as The Statues. It's prophetic, shamanic, and archetypally-charged - everything we need in the West right at this moment in short.
He's right in what he says as well. This is how cultures are born.
All here, as I say, on YouTube.
I now have a 'Buy me a Coffee' page too.
The statue shown above was created by the sculptor Jackie McNamara in 2003. It can be found in the cemetery in West Sligo where Yeats is buried. Apparently it was stolen in 2018 though. I've not been able to find out if it's back. I'm being positive and am assuming that it is!
