Great piece. I started reading it to my daughter tonight after reading this post. She's 11, about the age I was when I read it. She really liked it and wants to hear more so that's good. Thanks John!

That’s outstanding Matt! So good to hear. That first chapter is a masterpiece in its own right. The final chapter is a like high, mytho-poetic return to where the book began. And so much rich and stimulating stuff in between. A lot to look forward to for your daughter there 👍 And always nice for us parents and grown-ups to revisit the book and maybe find more there than we did first time around.

Wonderful piece, thank you. The one from 2022 also.

I was not fortunate enough to have read such authors a Alan Garner as a child, as a father of 5 now, I am, however, experiencing the joy of introducing such authors to my children and myself at the same time.

Thank you 👍 Yes, Garner's been a great blessing, all through the late-20th and early-21st centuries. His books have helped balance out the over-riding desacralusation of our time. They are exercises in re-enchsntment. Fantastic primers in the numinous for your children. Great work on your part, Sir 👏
